IV Sedation

Deep relaxation for patients with dental anxiety or longer procedures — administered in-house by a licensed, certified provider.

What IV Sedation Is

Safe, controlled relaxation — so you can get the care you need.

If dental anxiety, fear, or discomfort has kept you from getting the care you need, IV sedation may be the solution. We offer safe and effective IV sedation to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during dental procedures — whether you need extensive dental work or simply want a more peaceful experience.

IV sedation, also known as intravenous sedation, is a form of conscious sedation administered through a small IV line in your arm. This method allows for deep relaxation while you remain responsive to verbal cues. Unlike general anesthesia, IV sedation keeps you in a semi-conscious state, meaning you can breathe on your own without the need for a ventilator.

This type of sedation is ideal for patients with dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex, or those undergoing lengthy procedures. Dr. Will is licensed and certified to provide IV sedation at our Tuscaloosa office — no outside referral, no unfamiliar facility.

Is It Right for You?

Who Benefits from IV Sedation

IV sedation is a great option for patients who:

  • Experience severe dental anxiety or fear
  • Have a low pain threshold or sensitivity to dental procedures
  • Need extensive dental treatment completed in one visit
  • Have a strong gag reflex that makes treatment difficult
  • Struggle to sit still for long periods due to medical or psychological conditions

Not sure if IV sedation is right for you? We'll review your medical history and treatment needs to determine the best option — and we'll be straightforward if a different approach makes more sense.

The Process

What to Expect at Your IV Sedation Appointment

From evaluation to recovery, here's how an IV sedation visit typically works.

1

Consultation & Medical Review

We review your medical history and current medications to confirm you're a good candidate for IV sedation. We'll walk through the procedure and answer any questions before you decide.

2

IV Placement & Sedation

A small IV line is placed in your arm and sedation is administered. You'll feel deeply relaxed within minutes. Your vital signs are monitored closely throughout the entire appointment.

3

Treatment & Recovery

Your dental treatment is completed while you rest comfortably. Afterward, we provide detailed post-care instructions. You'll need a trusted friend or family member to drive you home.

What Patients Say

5-Star Google Review
★★★★★
“I cannot sing high enough praises of Dr. Will and his staff! I’ve been to their office several times over the past months, and today was my first of two visits for crowns. Each time I’ve stepped in the door, I’ve been enthusiastically greeted by the ladies at the front desk, and I’ve never had a long wait time. Their goal is to make you as comfortable as possible for any procedures, and I 100% appreciate all the little things they do to put my mind at ease. Personally, I had sedation for my crown today, and everything about it was exactly what I needed — awake but didn’t feel a thing. I would give more than 5 stars if I could!”
