Sedation Dentistry
Dental anxiety shouldn't keep you from the care you deserve. We built sedation into our practice because we understand it's a real barrier for real people.
IV Sedation
The deepest level of in-office relaxation.
"IV sedation provides the deepest level of relaxation for patients who suffer from severe anxiety. Sedation is not only for patients that are anxious about dental care, but is also great for longer procedures or any procedure during which patients want to be most relaxed. Dr. Will is licensed and certified to provide IV sedation at our Tuscaloosa dental office so you can receive your treatment feeling comfortable and at ease."
IV sedation is a genuine part of how we practice — not an occasional option we outsource. Dr. Will is credentialed for it, and every dental assistant on our team is trained to assist with and monitor sedated patients. That's deliberate. When something is integrated into the way a practice works, it's done better and more safely than when it's treated as an exception.
What this means for you: complex procedures, longer appointments, and anxious moments can all be managed here, with a team you already know, without being referred somewhere unfamiliar. The care happens in one place, with one consistent team, from start to finish.
IV sedation is offered in-house and supported by a fully trained team.
Nitrous oxide — a lighter option for milder anxiety or longer routine visits.
Nitrous Oxide
A lighter option for milder anxiety.
Nitrous oxide — sometimes called laughing gas — is a well-established, well-tolerated option for patients who feel some nervousness about dental visits but don't need or want IV sedation. It takes effect quickly, wears off quickly, and doesn't require any special preparation or recovery time.
It's also a reasonable choice for longer routine appointments when you'd simply like to be more relaxed throughout. The point isn't that you have to be anxious to use it — it's just another way we try to make the experience more comfortable for the people in our chairs.
Not sure which option fits your situation? Call us. We're happy to walk through it without any pressure to commit to anything.
Common questions
What patients usually ask us
Is sedation safe?
Yes. IV sedation at our office is administered by Dr. Will, who is licensed and credentialed specifically for it. Every dental assistant on our team is trained to assist with and monitor sedated patients. We take the safety and support structure around sedation as seriously as we take the sedation itself.
Who is it for?
Sedation is appropriate for patients with significant dental anxiety, patients undergoing longer procedures, and anyone who would simply prefer to be more relaxed during care. You don't need to meet a threshold of anxiety to ask about it — if the idea appeals to you, it's worth a conversation.
Will my insurance cover it?
Coverage for sedation varies by plan. Some insurance policies cover sedation when it's clinically appropriate; others treat it as a separate benefit or don't cover it at all. We can help you understand what your specific plan includes before you commit to anything. Call us and we'll look into it together.
