Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)
Advanced healing therapy that uses your body's own blood to speed recovery after implants, bone grafts, and extractions.
What PRF Is
Your body's own biology — working harder for your recovery.
Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is an advanced healing therapy that harnesses the natural growth factors already in your blood. A small sample of your own blood is drawn, processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets and fibrin, and then applied directly to the surgical site. The result is a powerful, entirely natural material that signals your body to regenerate tissue faster.
PRF is particularly effective after dental implant placement, bone grafting, and tooth extractions. By concentrating the growth factors your body already produces, PRF promotes more rapid tissue regeneration, reduces the risk of infection at the surgical site, and supports stronger integration of implants and grafts.
Because PRF comes from your own blood, there's no risk of allergic reaction or rejection — it's as natural a healing aid as exists in modern dentistry. We use it as a straightforward way to give your recovery a meaningful head start.
PRF therapy uses your body's own growth factors to accelerate healing naturally.
PRF supports stronger integration of dental implants and grafts.
Benefits of PRF
Why We Use PRF at Vandervoort Family Dentistry
- Faster healing — accelerates your body's natural tissue regeneration, reducing recovery time after surgery
- Reduced infection risk — increased tissue regeneration helps protect the surgical site
- Better implant outcomes — supports stronger, more successful integration of implants and bone grafts
- Completely natural — derived from your own blood, with no risk of allergic reaction or rejection
- Especially beneficial for patients with slower healing rates or those looking to minimize recovery time
Who It's For
Ideal Candidates for PRF Treatment
PRF is not right for every situation — but when it fits, it makes a meaningful difference in how you heal.
Dental Implant Patients
PRF applied at the implant site promotes faster osseointegration — the process by which the implant fuses with your bone — supporting a more predictable outcome.
Bone Graft Procedures
When bone grafting is needed to build up the jaw before implant placement, PRF helps stabilize the graft material and signals the surrounding tissue to regenerate.
Tooth Extractions
After an extraction, PRF placed in the socket speeds healing of the soft tissue and bone, reducing discomfort and lowering the risk of complications like dry socket.
The Process
How PRF Therapy Works
Simple, quick, and done alongside your procedure — here's what the PRF process looks like.
Blood Draw
A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm — the same as a routine lab draw. This takes only a minute and happens at the start of your appointment.
Centrifuge Processing
The blood sample is placed in a centrifuge that spins it at high speed, separating the platelet-rich fibrin layer from the rest of the blood. This takes about 12 minutes.
Application
The concentrated PRF material is placed directly at the surgical site — into the implant socket, graft area, or extraction site — where it begins supporting healing immediately.
