Endodontics

Precise, gentle care to relieve tooth pain, treat infection, and preserve the natural teeth you have.

What Endodontics Is

Saving your natural tooth — when it matters most.

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry focused on diagnosing and treating conditions inside the tooth — specifically the dental pulp and root tissues. When a tooth becomes infected or severely damaged, endodontic treatment removes the source of pain and infection so the tooth can be saved rather than extracted.

The most common endodontic procedure is a root canal. Despite its reputation, a well-performed root canal relieves pain rather than causing it. Local anesthesia ensures you're comfortable throughout. The infected pulp is removed, the canals are cleaned and sealed, and in most cases a crown is placed afterward to fully restore the tooth's strength and function.

You may need endodontic care if you're experiencing persistent tooth pain when chewing, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling or tenderness in the gums near a specific tooth, tooth discoloration, or a small pimple-like bump on the gums. If any of those sound familiar, we'll evaluate the tooth and be straightforward with you about what's needed.

The Process

What to Expect at Your Endodontic Appointment

From diagnosis to restoration, here's how a root canal treatment typically unfolds.

1

Diagnosis & Planning

We use digital imaging to assess the affected tooth and determine the extent of the damage or infection. You'll review what we find with us before anything is scheduled so you understand exactly what the treatment involves.

2

Cleaning & Sealing

Local anesthesia is administered to ensure a comfortable experience. The infected or damaged pulp is carefully removed, and the root canals are cleaned, shaped, and filled with a biocompatible material to prevent reinfection.

3

Restoration

A temporary filling is placed initially. In most cases, a permanent crown is then recommended to protect and fully restore the tooth's function. We coordinate that restoration in-house so you stay with a team that knows your case.

What Patients Say

5-Star Google Review
★★★★★
“I had a crown break off last night and needed immediate treatment early this morning, on a Friday. Dr. Smith and his staff were very friendly and professional, and quickly worked me into their schedule and had me in the chair within an hour of my calling them. They were attentive that my procedure was as painless as possible — as an RN this made a very good impression on me. I was happy with the quality of their care and will continue using them for my dental needs in the future.”
